Rock City Ostas

Ostaš is a summit in the czech Stołowe Mountains, rising to 700 metres above sea level. It is located about 4 km from Police nad Metují. A characteristic feature of the area is the numerous formations that form rock labyrinths.

There are two extremely interesting trails – the Lower and Upper Labyrinths. It takes about 2 hours to complete the whole route. Both routes provide an unforgettable experience. Sometimes it may seem to us that there is no way out of a particular alley but surely after a while we will find a hidden passage.

In the Upper Labyrinth, we can admire such rock formations as the Death Graves or the Devil’s Carriage. What is more, there are quite a few lookout points with a picturesque panorama of Broumovskie Steny, Karkonosze, Kamienne Mountains, Sowie Mountains, Bystrzyckie Mountains and Orlickie Mountains. Also on the mountain itself, there is a viewing platform called the Fridlantská Rock.

The Lower Labyrinth of the Rock Town is a route leading to the Cat’s Nest. Although the route does not offer many open views, it is made up for by narrow passages, rocky steps and gates through which we have to squeeze in order to continue. Along the trail, you will see a signpost directing you to the Bohemian Brethren Cave. It is worth going there, especially as it is only 200 metres one way. At the bottom, you will see a narrow, high corridor with a large boulder wedged at the top. In the past, secret services were held here.

The rock city is a magical place which will appeal not only to the youngest.
